The Crane Resort & Residences occupies a dramatic high cliff on the Southeast coast of Barbados, swept by fresh, invigorating breezes. This famous property overlooks a half-mile of white soft sands known as Crane Beach. 10 Minutes from Barbados Airport. Recognized for its stunning beauty, this truly unique property combines elegance, with a old-world charm.
Set on the world-famous Crane Beach, is the Caribbean's first resort hotel. Built in 1887 and fully restored and expanded in the 20th century, this truly unique property combines elegance, old-world charm with an incredible natural beauty, and a feeling among guests of having a truly relaxing retreat from everyday life.
Sits on an Oasis of Luxury, and protected by a natural coral reef, the Crane Resort is truly the ideal Caribbean vacation. It has been known for its sophistication, its romantic seclusion and its unhurried relaxed atmosphere, while boasting half a mile of ocean frontage, and a panoramic views of the blue Atlantic ocean. Now transformed from a very small property on the southeast coast of Barbados to a premier luxury resort, The Crane nevertheless maintains its distinctive historic and intimate feel.
The essence of The Crane is a combination of spectacular natural beauty, casually elegant and warm friendly service with well-trained staff to meet your every need.
Note:
The Hotel is currently adding more rooms and constructing The Crane Village, which is due to be completed in November, to feature a choice of gourmet and casual restaurants. The construction schedule is approximately 8:00am – 5:30pm and there will be some intermittent noise factor. The buildings are up and painted, however work still have to be done inside the buildings. Also the Park Apartments are being built at the back of the property. Therefore this area is not within close proximity to the private residences. Please note however all ocean view rooms do not face construction and the beach, restaurants and pools are not affected by the developments. The Crane is a beautiful resort and rates this low will not last much longer so take advantage now!

Pete from New York, NY had this to say:
"It is with regret that I find myself writing my first ever bad review for a hotel. The Crane property is beautiful, with breathtaking views over the beach and ocean. We had a very nice, new room, and there is excellent food in the 2 restaurants (if somewhat expensive). Do not be fooled, however, this is not a 5 star resort. It really isn't. The prices are certainly 5 star in both the bar and the restaurant, but the service and facilities fall woefully short. It is remotely located, but the on-site facilities are simply not adequate. (I would hope that once the current construction is completed this will be better.) Every day over the course of the week we were let down by something, generally attributed to laziness on the part of the staff or management. I list just some of these: 1 - no poolside waiter service, no on-site spa facilities, 2 - construction work was not noisy, but it felt like it was everywhere 3 - there is no bar or restaurant open past 10pm and given the remote location of property, this means that 10pm is bed time as there is simply nowhere else to go without a car/taxi and the nearest thing BY car or taxi is around 25 minutes away. '4 - the pool bar staff would not supply us with an ice bucket to keep beers in during the day, which was necessitated by #1 on this list, and they were generally unhelpful. (Jonathan and Keisha in concierge were, on the other hand, very helpful and deserving of praise.) 5 - there is no room service for food once the two restaurants have closed at 10pm. No late sandwiches. Nothing. To make matters worse, I was told by the switchboard operator that the bar would be able to serve food late, which was just not true. As a result, that night we had no evening meal. 6 - we had no hot water day after day despite the staff being informed (day after day) 7 - the very temporary-feeling 'general store' is far too small given the remoteness of the property, and is woefully understocked with toiletries (including the real basics such as feminine products) 8 - the hairdryer in the room did not work, and our shower did not appear to be cleaned once over the course of our stay 9 - the breakfast buffet was usually cold after 9am, as none of the staff seemed interested in changing the burners after they had gone out. 10 - lobby toilet was broken and full of waste for 2 days running, seemingly without attention (or even an 'out of order' sign). 11 - The other thing to note is the wind - this part of the coast is *windy* (not breezy), and the wind is unrelenting. This is actually quite refreshing, but it is really too windy to eat outside (we still did do so, but only at breakfast).
It is a terrible shame - it is a lovely property with a very interesting history. I really hope that once the construction work is completed the facilities will prove more adequate for the remote nature of the property. This will not, however, address the overall laziness that many of the above-issues could be attributed to. I am fairly certain that I will not be going back and I would not currently recommend the hotel to anyone."

Linda Driggs from Ventura, California had this to say:
"I wanted to stay longer. The setting is beautiful and the breeze coming thru the rooms is to die for. Very expensive to eat there is the only thing we had a problem with. Not much choice on the menu and it is very expensive. They need a place to eat that is geared more to family style eating (burgers, chicken fried steak, pizza and a bacon and eggs breakfast with toast and potatoes, etc. Wonderful people and a beautiful place. It is out of the way for eating at other places. You need to take a taxi which will run about $40.00. The grocery store in town is not what we are used to so be prepared. They eat a lot of fish and rice. Bring some food with you and you will have a ball."
