Back to Mexico from Hamilton, Ontario had this to say:
"This resort was the best all inclusive resort that I have been to. Everything was first quality and the service was fantastic. This resort definately deserves its 5 star rating. When they say all inclusive they mean it. The food was gourmet, with a choice of 7 restaurants. Room service was included (try having cake and hot chocolate before you go to bed, after a jacuzzi). You could always get a chair by the pool or on the beach. The nightly entertainment was good. Close to 5th Avenue in Playa. Only thing to watch out for are the Vacation Club sales people. "

"We went in Nov 2008.'The view was excellent.'We were there for 7 days.'Unfortunately, I was laid up after 3 days and was stuck in the room for 3 days.'The service was okay, the food was sub standard. I t was average for a supposedly 4 star resort. I won't deny the beauty of the beaches., but the food needs to be better."

A Recent Traveler from Wall, NJ had this to say:
"Very clean and nicely appointed room. Beware, some ocean view rooms aren't really ocean view unless you lean over your railing to see the water. You can reserve your room 48 hours prior to your trip. Great idea - we were able to get a Royal Jr. Suite on 2nd floor with great view. Unlike other all inclusives, tipping is the norm. Restaurants are good. Japanese was great, Maria Marias was ok, breakfast buffet very good. Service was friendly and best when tipping. Pool water was cold but usually plenty of seating. Beach was beautiful, water was warm and calm. Plenty of beach cabanas for everyone. Room service was efficient and housekeeping very good. We did have a problem with the a/c but it was fixed quickly after 2nd request (thanks to Anna). Overall, trip was very nice and reasonably priced. "

Playa Playahs from Philadelphia, PA had this to say:
"We booked our honeymoon at The Royal Playa on a travel agent friend's high recommendation. We received a nice Mimosa welcome but unfortunately the first Ocean View room they gave us was only a partial view and was ground level facing an alley/walkway. We complained and they apologized saying there would be better rooms the next morning at check-out. We said ok and the next morning stood in line to speak to someone. A very nice manager offered to show us a Royal Master Ocean View upgrade for only $75 more a night. After seeing the HUGE clean suite, plush king bed, big jacuzzi and clear ocean view w/hammock we agreed. After that, WE LOVED OUR STAY! The 24-hour room service (cervezas included!), the many restaurants (though some food clearly better than others room service food only so-so), the delicious large breakfast buffet, the swim-up bar, and the great beach beds and bar service. We are not cheap and tipped the servers almost every time for their hard work and attentiveness. It looks like its gotten more expensive since they gained a half-star rating, but I would HIGHLY recommend the Royal PDC if you can splurge for it. *Tip: whenever they staff said hola and 'wanted to talk to us' we just kept smiling and walking waway telling them we were too busy or tired to talk - 'later, later!' ENJOY!"

Al Rockett from Birmingham, Alabama had this to say:
"Just returned from our 10 yr. wedding anniversary trip(10/22-10/26) at The Royal/Playa del Carmen. The quality and service at this resort is extraordinary. however, if its your first time here, don't get roped in to the sales pitch where they tie you up for 3 or 4 hrs promising all kinds of amenities if you spend $90,000 to purchase a room there. Are they crazy!! We were completely taken off guard and wasted 1/2 a day with this scam! Don't agree to have breakfast with anyone working at this resort or you will be sorry!! I wish we had that day back because we missed some quality time from our vacation. We will go back to The Royal, but we won't let anyone talk us into anything !! BEWARE!!!"
