HMV Tours presents Hummer safaris in the pristine rainforest of the Kohala Mountains, located on the northern part of the Big Island. This area has a range of annual rainfall from 6" to 140" and terrain that ranges from desert to lush tropical rainforest. There is very little modern development so you can get a real feel of how people have lived here for the last 150 years. This is the first time these lands are accessible to the public. The hummer navigates the spectacular but rugged terrain with ease and safety. The trip features scenic waterfalls, native Hawaiian plant life, pristine riverbeds, untouched ravines and a swim in a hidden waterfall pool. Our guides will identify endangered plant life growing in the rain forest and explain how botanists are propagating those species and protecting them from extinction. The Hummer vehicle provides responsible travel into this natural and pristine ecosystem. It eliminates the necessity to engage heavy construction equipment to construct and maintain new roads and trails that can destroy the sensitive environment.
