Located high on a bluff overlooking the coastal town of Avila Beach, the Mediterranean-style Sunterra San Luis Bay Inn is approximately 10 miles from the San Luis Obispo Airport. For the outdoor enthusiasts, San Luis Obispo County has numerous hiking and biking trails. Avila Beach offers kayaking, surfing, sailing, and whale watching. First-timers to the Central Coast must check out historic Hearst Castle in San Simeon. Pismo Beach is five miles away, San Luis Obispo is eight miles, Morro Bay is 15, and Cambria is 30 miles from the hotel.

Hotel amenities include the full-service salon, outdoor heated pool, weight room, Jacuzzi, game room, children's pool, mountain bike rentals, tennis courts, basketball courts, gift shop, volleyball, laundry facilities, vending machines, free parking, and video rentals. The resort has an on-site activities department that organizes the ice cream & bingo social, casino night, wine and cheese social, family style BBQ, yoga, aqua aerobics, and more.

All units feature partial kitchens, dining areas, living areas, queen-size beds, queen-size sofa sleepers, standard baths, private balconies, and TVs with VCRs.
